The president of The Modern Edge, LTD since 2019, Robert Tirgan has a master's degree in architecture from the University of Michigan. Among the construction projects for his company, Robert Tirgan plans to construct multi-family housing developments in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio.
Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, construction firms in the area experienced consistent demand for apartment buildings. Since 2015, construction companies in Cleveland have reported heightened numbers of projects completed and housing units built. In this time, developers added around 1,460 units annually. Even though Cleveland’s population has remained the same since the 1970s, so demand for new homes does not derive from out-of-state residents coming to the area, housing in Cleveland is in high demand anyway.
Once the COVID-19 pandemic and associated lockdowns began in March 2020, developers worried construction would slow down. However, people continued to buy homes at the same rate as before the pandemic, especially younger professionals buying their first homes. The state government also defined construction as an essential service, so companies could continue work on ongoing projects, and even begin new ones. A scarcity of vacant homes, combined with replacing worn-out units for newer ones, contributes to Cleveland’s thriving construction industry.
